PostSubject: Air Mixture   Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:15 pm

Came back from Cleethorpes on my sons 1983 Vespa 125 / 180 DR Kit and it started to splutter a bit.

Yesterday i took the carb apart and blew through the jets and cleaned out all the filters and sump. There was some sediment in there. While i was doing this i noticed that there was a bit of fuel and 2 stroke in the bottom of the housing that protects the whole carb n stuff. As i cleaned it out i inadvertently moved the air intake screw and then tried to correct it and am now lost!

When the scooter is cold it will start as it did before but when it runs it is like it is trying to 'break through and go! If i stall it then i have to take the plug out and and dry it as it is soaking.

At the moment i have the air flow screw set at 2 full turns out from fully in. The carb idle screw on the top has also seemed to lost its effect and it can be screwed in or out with no effect.

Any advice is welcome please.

actually, i'd replace the plug first, then check the ht cap and lead, make sure its a tight fit on the coil, if still the same, then get some winn's dry fuel (£5 from halfords) follow instructions on bottle, should sort it. if not that then its strip the carb again and double check everything, after that then i'd go for stator plate/piston rings,

If it's revving the tits off itself I'd say you've got an airleak Dai.
The mixture screw is normally 1 1/2 to 2 turns out anyway so I don't that's your problem.
Anyway what were you doing on your lads scoot?????
